PLATTEVILLE, Wis.– For the third consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and its Distance Learning Center (www.GoUWP.com), have been named to Military Advanced Education's 2012 Guide to Top Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities. Published annually, the guide provides information regarding college options for U.S. service people and veterans.

Institutions are selected based on the following criteria: number of American Council on Education credits the school will accept;  Service member Opportunity Colleges participation; on-campus active duty/veteran assistance; support provided to the families of service members; and the sophistication and effectiveness of its distance learning programs.

"We’re proud to be included again this year on MAE's prestigious list of institutions that are committed to helping service members advance in their college careers," said Dawn Drake, executive director of alternative delivery systems. "UW-Platteville recognizes the unique learning needs of military members and veterans. As always, we’re committed to providing the support military personnel require to achieve academic success."

Drake said the recognition is possible because of the support structures in place to help current military members, veterans and family members.

UW-Platteville Online offers:

  • Degree programs that are approved for Veterans Administration (VA) benefits under the GI Bill, as well as tuition assistance for active-duty, reserve, and National Guard service members
  • Camaraderie-building groups specifically designed for active-duty military, reservists, veterans, and military spouses
  • Learning resources and course materials that are available online 24/7 from anywhere there is an Internet connection
  • Access to a dedicated staff knowledgeable of benefits available for education
  • Affordable tuition

The Military Advanced Education honor is another in a string of tributes to UW-Platteville’s efforts to educate members of the U.S. military. Most recently, in September 2011, the university was honored by G.I. Jobs magazine on its list of Military-Friendly Schools for the third consecutive year.

Military Advanced Education covers issues and trends in distance learning and education as they specifically relate to military life, including innovative programs, military educational policy, financial aid, and coursework that offer special opportunities for military personnel. The magazine is produced by a Maryland-based company that publishes 11 military and defense-oriented magazines.

UW-Platteville provides eight degrees entirely online. Visit www.GoUWP.com, call 800.362.5460 or e-mail disted@uwplatt.edu to learn more.
