PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Scott Wright, Ph.D., P.E., assistant professor of project management at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and its Distance Learning Center, is the first employee at UW-Platteville to receive the Project Management Professional (PMP)® Credential from the Project Management Institute (PMI)®.
“Prior to my career transition to higher education, I was fortunate in my public and private sector experience to have accumulated the thousands of hours of non-overlapping project management experience, as well as the required education, to sit for the exam," Wright said. "In my opinion, credentialing in one’s professional discipline is important and demonstrates competency and commitment.”
The credential is the most important industry-recognized certification for project managers. Globally recognized and demanded, the PMP demonstrates that an individual has the experience, education and competency to successfully lead and direct projects. PMI is the world’s leading not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession, with more than 500,000 members and credential holders in more than 185 countries.
Wright, who lives in Mount Horeb, is also the first tenure-track faculty member of the UW-Platteville’s project management program. He has more than 25 years of professional experience. Prior to returning to Wisconsin, Wright was a consulting engineer, key client manager, and project manager for the technical solutions team with URS (one of the world’s largest engineering-consulting firms) in the Melbourne, Australia office. He's also a former U.S. Army Medical Service Corps lieutenant colonel with more than 21 years of active military service. In 2005, he was inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit.
